the experience of

Former Volunteers

My voluntary work at CTRD provided me with a unique insight into the rich diversity of tribal culture in rural India. It presented an extraordinary experience in a remote, off-the-beaten-path location, far removed from the mainstream. During my time on the campus, I was warmly embraced by all its members, who graciously introduced me to various facets of their activities. The director, in particular, offered valuable insights into local peculiarities, highlights, and challenges. I had the privilege of participating in ceremonies dedicated to worshiping local goddesses, acquiring skills such as tailoring or handling secateurs for tea plucking, and even encountering wild elephants. These impressions motivated me to further explore tribal culture, explore their empowerment in the Nilgiris region, and engage with the projects undertaken by CTRD. I extend my heartfelt gratitude for this invaluable opportunity!

I was working for CTRD in 2017 as a German volunteer and I had an amazing time! I learned so much from the community and the colleagues. Especially the visits to the villages meeting the people there was an amazing experience. The surroundings are in general awesome with a national park with tigers and elephants nearby and all the beautiful teahills everywhere. Also, it was so nice to have such wonderful food during the stay. In general, south indian food is delicious!I hope I was able to give something back and I am really looking forward buying the tea in the future in Germany to continue to support the region and organisation.

We hope that you will continue to support us in our efforts to create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.    Thank you once again for your generosity and support!
