Program Details
Since 2019 CTRD is working together with SODI to improve the living conditions of Adivasi in the Nilgiris District with a special focus on Food security. The program is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and consists of different components to tackle all the dimensions of food insecurity and improving health conditions of the beneficiaries. The program is mainly focused on income generation to ensure food sovereignity to the communities, but also health services are provided to address the problems of alcoholism and Sickle Cell Anemia. The program further includes Evening Coaching Centers for school children to support education within the tribal communities.
our main goals
- Food availability: The availability of sufficient quantities of food of appropriate quality, supplied through domestic production or imports (including food aid).
- Food access: Access by individuals to adequate resources (entitlements) for acquiring appropriate foods for a nutritious diet. This includes the legal, political, economic and social arrangements of the community in which the individual lives (including traditional rights such as access to common resources).
- Utilization: Utilization of food through adequate diet, clean water, sanitation and health care to reach a state of nutritional well-being where all physiological needs are met.
- Stability: Access to adequate food at all times. There should be not risk losing access to food as a consequence of sudden shocks (e.g. an economic or climatic crisis) or cyclical events (e.g. seasonal food insecurity).
